mazda navajo 4×4 1994 i smell gas inside the car but mostly outside. whats the problem?
my girlfriend and i just bought a 1994 mazda navajo 4×4 and we smell gas its really strong outside of the car, but you can kinda smell it in the car. its not showing signs of a leak. my mother says is may just need a new air or gas filter, and the mechanic i bought it from says its been sitting outside for awhile and thats why it smells like gas when it’s running. plus the tank is on empty and he says the car could be trying to suck up the all gas and what we are smelling is air from the gas tank. i just want to know what could the problem be? and where is the fuel filter and air filter so i can take a look at them to see if they are dirty? also were can i find a free online manual?
You probably won’t find a “free” online manual. I would be very carefull with a possible gas leak due to the explosiveness of the fumes you are smelling. The mechanic you described sounds pretty shadey. I would fill it up with fuel and look everywhere for a fuel leak. You need to check around the fuel tank, the fuel lines that run along the frame, and at the injectors and lines under the hood. If you don’t smell fuel after filling it and running it, then you are probably good to go. It is very important that you do a second and third check for fuel leaks… Good luck..
