What direction do I put the filter in my heat pump?
I know this is probably the STUPIDEST thing ever – but in which direction should the arrow be pointing on my new filter in my heat pump. This is one of those fancy filter systems up in the attic, and it’s really a big filter. A Merv 13? I felt in the hole to see which way the air is flowing, so I guess I point the arrow that way – but I want to be sure. My kids are having horrible allergy issues so I feel like something is wrong. Help!!
the first two answers are correct, no question there! Let me add this too: there are some units that cannot handle the added air flow resistance that these tight woven hypoalergenic air filters have so check to see that your unit is at least a 13 seer outside and that your air handler is also compatible with that and that your outside unit is large enough for your home…600 sq’ per ton so if you have an 1800 sq’ home a 3 ton unit would be enough to push air effectively but if it just 1/2 ton smaller then with that filter in the return that will make your handler and unit work harder and longer to maintain temp inside.
